Souped up
I love making soup, this is something I learned about myself last year, and the thing I love most about making soup? Is eating soup!
Now if your only foray into the consumption of soup is limited to the tinned or packet varieties you have missed out!
Soup is given to the homeless as it's nourishing, cheap, and easily digestible, I don't believe this to be true of the tinned stuff. Homemade soup is so satisfying and the best bit....it always looks like soup! You can't go wrong can you? Even the worst cook can make it.
My mum used to use packet soup as a gravy, sausage and mash with golden vegetable soup is lovely! Odd perhaps but this is the woman who put onions in everything, rice, mash, roast chicken.
Speaking of onions my favourite is Onion soup, it's cheap, warming, low fat and tastes delicious! Of course it's only low fat if you don't add the cheese on toast!
I think a little challenge to myself is to make a different soup each week, although the summer months aren't usually a time to enjoy soup ...so I will make salads instead in the summer!
I will share with you my results!
I read in a magazine an article that listed ways to stay happy and healthy this winter and one of them was to fill a flask with soup, a bag with rolls and apples and wrap up and meet a friend or two in the park. I think this is a FAB idea!
My friend Jo and I have 'car park picnics' in that we meet for the day and take a packed lunch, we often end up eating in the car!
Right off to add Onions to the online shopping order!
Toodle pip!
